The Anthem

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade

Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
And cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war,
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.

We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

This song is all I know about serendipity. And I can't tire of saying it. Who would have known, when on a sultry Sunday afternoon I realized that "I want to break free" was no longer working, when I was tired of a job I had outgrown, a boss whose face I no longer wanted to see, and a home I never wanted to come back to, that this caller tune was a signal to the universe. Calling out to someone. The other lost soul in the fish bowl. Who would have known.

Life. It bloody amazes me.

Life amazes us... that's it's job and it's doing it pretty well.
